A lamp shade from faux leather paper and rattan

1   Place the lamp shade on top of the faux leather paper. Mark the top and the bottom of the lampshade with a pencil on the paper whilst rolling the lamp shade a short distance at the time. Add an additional 2 cm at one side for overlapping and fastening the lamp shade at the end. A tip: Set the iron at a medium temperature and iron the faux leather paper to smooth it out.

2   Add an extra 1.5 cm to the top and the bottom so that the faux leather paper will extend slightly beyond the lamp shade. Cut out the design and fasten it onto the outside of the lamp shade with clothes pegs to keep it in place. Apply glue onto the faux leather paper where the paper overlaps. Keep the overlaps in place with clothes pegs – as shown in the photo - until the glue is dry.

3   Cut two pieces of rattan which – combined – are the same size as the faux leather paper.

4   Glue the two pieces of rattan onto the faux leather paper.

5   Keep it in place with clothes pegs and a piece of string until the glue is dry.

6   Cut four 3 cm wide faux leather paper strips; one measuring 68 cm in length, one measuring 55 cm in length and two measuring 24 cm in length.

7   Attach the strips onto the top and the bottom of the lamp shade as shown in the photo. Attach the two short strips vertically to cover the joints. Keep everything in place with pegs and string until the glue is dry. Attach a wire and a light bulb which doesn't get too hot.
